Artist Books are a wonderfully diverse genre and my work is much the same. I'm fascinated by structures and boxes, both traditional and invented. Most of the books included here have some unique sculptural or spacial element to them.

This beginner’s level course for longstitch is an excellent entry for people wanting to learn the traditional binding online. Not only will you learn the basic ins and outs of this non-adhesive, stitch pattern binding, but we will also discuss the infinite possibilities of how to creatively design your own patterns. There will be a demo on how to laminate decorative papers covers to create sturdy and malleable book covers. With the use of a Japanese hole punch or awl to create the stitch patterning, the final product has a polished look in a unique and changeable pattern structure.

We will also quickly discuss the historical importance and prevalence of this binding. You’ll come away with an intricate and exquisite book, and the skills to make this binding at home with the materials to repeat it right away. No previous experience required. All materials will be provided and shipped to registrants before the class.

PLEASE NOTE: Any students wishing to have personal time, assistance, and feedback can book additional time with the instructor at a reduced rate. Every student works at a different pace and experience level. The instructor will attempt to give time for questions and work within the framework of the course.
