In this one day course, it'll be all about the blues... Starting the morning with blue jeans we'll cut and prepare fiber for vats and create 5 custom color combinations from different denims (indigo to stone washed). Once the vats are set up, it’s time to pull sheets from our color variations and see what comes up, with all the magical depth of colors from people’s old cast-offs.
In the afternoon we'll be dying with the blues, exploring indigo and pigments to get rich midnight and sky blues to round out the spectrum from abaca fiber that’s been pre-beaten for the class. The soundtrack for lunch will be classic blues to get us in the mood.
Students will have the chance to make several kinds of paper and sheets can be taken with them wet to dry at home or dried under pressure and mailed to them.
Tools, clothing and what to bring will be provided to enrolled participants 2 weeks before.
